UCI Wins Second Prize of the Group’s 2022 Science and Technology Progress Awards for Two Sci-Tech Innovations

Recently, the results of Beijing Urban Construction Group’s 2022 Science and Technology Progress Awards were unveiled. After the review by the group’s Science and Technology Committee, UCI won the second prize for “Low-volume intelligent integrated dispatching system based on cloud-edge collaboration” and “Design and implementation of edge cloud based on the intelligent control all-in-one machine”, its two scientific and technological innovations.
The “Low-volume intelligent integrated dispatching system based on cloud-edge collaboration” was recognized by a panel of experts as a system that has reached the international advanced level during the evaluation of scientific and technological achievements organized by the China Association of Metros. Currently, it has been applied to many domestic urban rail projects in Zhuzhou, Yibin and other cities, achieving remarkable social and economic benefits.
The system was designed based on cloud edge collaborative architecture and cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, edge computing and artificial intelligence, and adopts a fully independent hyperconverged intelligent hardware platform, making it a line- and network-level intelligent integrated dispatching system for low volume, which enables multi-standard intelligent dispatching and intelligent operation and maintenance.
The system’s innovation lies in the all-new cloud edge collaborative architecture and edge-edge collaborative architecture, through which it established a lightweight edge hyperconverged intelligent hardware platform, satisfying the need of multi-standard intelligent dispatching. AI technology and situational awareness technology allow the system to achieve intelligent dispatching and intelligent operation and maintenance. Through an intensive and edge integration design, the system reduces the cost of urban rail construction, operation and maintenance, and improves its automation level, which lays a foundation for the construction of digital and green urban rail.
The “Design and implementation of edge cloud based on the intelligent control all-in-one machine” was previously praised by the China Association of Metros as an excellent case of the best practice of informatization in China's urban rail transit industry (informationization achievement).
The intelligent control all-in-one machine is the core hardware of the IaaS layer of UCI’s self-developed cloud platform-based rail transit automation system that was set up with “Chinese chips” and operates with homegrown database software and operating system, which becomes fully independent and controllable. Compared with conventional station equipment, the intelligent control all-in-one machine based on edge computing supports the on-demand resource allocation with the use of the edge computing platform in stations, which improves the resource utilization rate and cuts energy consumption. The hardware adopts an intensive and granular design to reduce the number of equipment and thus reduce the equipment occupancy. It has a standard CPCI architecture and a unified hardware interface, making it scalable. Each functional unit is independent of the other, realizing hot swap and featuring high maintainability.
The intelligent control all-in-one machine has been applied in many projects across the country. For instance, along with the cloud platform-based rail transit automation system, the intelligent control all-in-one machine was used in Kunming Metro Line 4, providing a strong guarantee for the orderly and stable operation of the metro line. The machine props up the cloud platform-based tram intelligent control system in Delingha’s tram project and uses big data analysis technology to optimize the operating efficiency of all trams along the line. In Zhuzhou’s ART line, the intelligent control all-in-one machine offers computing for UCI’s self-developed intelligent ART and bus integrated dispatching system, achieving the intelligent integration of operation and dispatching and facilitating the implementation of China’s first “ART + bus” corridor sharing solution. The two smart demonstration stations in Nanchang Metro Line 4 used the intelligent control all-in-one machine to create a "station cloud", which highly integrates the professional equipment and corresponding functions in the originally scattered stations. In Shaoxing Metro Line 1, the cloud platform-based rail transit automation system and the intelligent control all-in-one machine were used for the computing, exchange and storage of the station cloud of the line, creating the first urban rail cloud with edge-core integration in the Yangtze River Delta region. Chongqing’s Bishan-Tongliang line and Fuzhou’s Binhai express line under construction will apply the intelligent control all-in-one machine, which will provide strong scientific and technological support for the safe and convenient mobility of local people.
UCI will take the prize winning as an opportunity to turn the honor into a driving force for work and regard the honor as a starting point for new struggle, continue to give full play to technological advantages, and further increase efforts on scientific and technological innovation, aiming to make new and greater contributions to the green, sustainable and intelligent development of digital transportation.
