On April 29, 2022, Shaoxing Rail Transit Line 1 officially commenced operation, marking the successful implementation of the Urban Rail Transit Operation Management System based on Cloud-Edge-End Collaborative Architecture. This core technology has been in stable operation for nearly 2 years, receiving widespread attention and acclaim. This system will also be applied to light rail and suburban railway projects, further expanding its scope of application.

The project achieves the following four technological innovations across four levels of equipment, architecture, system and application:

1) Industrial-grade integrated machine and spatial optimization methods. Addressing the issue of numerous existing rail transit devices and redundant IT resources, the project has researched equipment and computing platforms suitable for edge computing in urban rail transit stations, and developed a complete set of data collection and resource integration technologies, leading to Intelligent Control Integrated Machine, a pioneering innovation in the industry.

2) Open unified fusion architecture for smart urban rail. Addressing the challenges of closed and difficult-to-interoperate traditional rail transit systems, this project adopts a “Central Cloud + Station Cloud” architecture. It integrates, derives and combines various access interface application models, delineating interfaces into over 260 RESTful APIs and message bus interfaces at the finest granularity. This standardization facilitates monitoring, operations and other business models.

3) Lightweight edge computing system for rail transit based on cloud-edge collaboration. To overcome issues like isolated software and hardware in traditional comprehensive operation management platforms with “chimney-style” system architecture, poor collaborative capabilities, and underutilized resources, this project utilizes cloud computing and edge computing technologies, designs a new distributed integrated architecture platform tailored for metro systems, enhances cloud-edge collaboration capabilities and pioneers a station-edge cloud collaboration system in the industry.

4) Holistic perception technology and application for station operations. To enhance station operation capabilities and efficiency, this project utilizes multimodal holistic perception technology, integrates information from multiple disciplines and data sources, and achieves real-time monitoring, analysis and optimization of metro operations. Through coordinated modules, it displays train and passenger flow information in real-time on a digital dashboard. This assists station personnel in quickly accessing key business indicators and responding promptly, thereby improving management efficiency, scheduling efficiency and service quality.

The project has obtained 10 invention patents, 19 software copyrights, and achieved SIL2 certification. During the project’s development, UCI obtained the CMMI Level 5 certification for its software, and completed Trusted Cloud Service Authentication evaluation for its cloud management capabilities. Across enterprise foundational capabilities, consulting and planning capabilities, migration implementation capabilities, and operational management capabilities, it met the evaluation requirements for Trusted Cloud Service Authentication “Excellence” Level.
